Even if the office is closed for regular appointments, established patients can still talk to Dr. Bassett by phone - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Our goal is to get you the advice you need, when you need it.
Regular office hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. In general, we try to take lunch from noon to 1:00pm. To schedule an appointment, call our regular office number. Same-day appointments are available for patients requiring urgent attention and walk-ins are accepted (however we do recommend calling first). Walk-ins may be asked to wait while pre-scheduled patients are seen. For well child visits, a parent or the child's main guardian must be present.
If your child is an established patient and has an urgent medical problem or if you have a question that can't wait until regular office hours, you may call Dr. Bassett after hours for advice or to be seen.
Please keep in mind that this service is for established patients of Dr. Bassett only!
If you have a local physician (other than Dr. Bassett) and call after hours, you will be directed to contact your regular provider for medical advice. Families visiting the Lake Oconee area from out of town who do not have a local physician may use the after hours service.
To reach Dr. Bassett after hours, just call our regular office number, (706) 454-1210. Phone calls after hours and on Sundays are automatically redirected to an answering service, which will take your information and connect you immediately with Dr. Bassett.
After speaking with you, the doctor may determine that your child's problem cannot wait until the morning, in which case he will see your child immediately in the office. There is no extra fee for in-office, after-hours care.
We are dedicated to the care of our community's children, night and day. However, we respectfully request that the after hours service be used only for urgent problems that cannot wait until the morning. If you have a routine medical question (e.g. diaper rashes, common colds, bug bites, etc), please call during regular office hours to make an appointment. Emergencies (i.e. potential loss of life, limb, or eyesight) should also not call the after hours service, but rather first call 911.
We understand that sometimes your schedule may be unpredictable, especially where a child's involved! We do request that cancellations be made at least an hour in advance so that we can offer your appointment to another family.
Patients who arrive late may be asked to wait depending on how busy the office is. Late arrivals for well checks or physicals (i.e. non-urgent visits) may be asked to reschedule for another date. "No-showing", or missing an appointment without cancelling, is strongly discouraged. Please call to cancel your appointment in advance! Repeated no-shows may lead to discharge from our practice.
We offer complete inpatient and outpatient pediatric care from birth to 18 years of age, 24-hour call service for established patients and after hours office visits. We are your local pediatric specialists and can handle all common childhood medical needs.
Dr. Bassett is an attending physician at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton, and maintains full admitting privileges there. If your child requires inpatient admission, Dr. Bassett will personally admit your child, perform all daily progress exams and keep in close contact with the staff at PGH to ensure a rapid recovery.
If Dr. Bassett refers your child to an emergency department after hours, he will also ensure that your child's case is handled by the ER physicians with diligence and efficiency. More complicated cases requiring prolonged hospital stays or specialized services are usually transferred by Dr. Bassett to a larger facility with more expanded pediatric services.
